On 19 April 2023, Mahidol University announced the success of Thailand’s first CAR T-cell therapy program manufactured under international standards — the first of its kind in ASEAN. Ten patients, both children and adults, with blood cancers resistant to multiple chemotherapy regimens and targeted therapies were treated with CD19 CAR T-cells.
All ten patients responded to treatment and achieved remission. The CAR T-cells were developed by the research team of Prof. Suradej Hongeng at the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, and manufactured at the Genepeutic Bio production facility — Thailand’s first GMP-certified cell and gene therapy manufacturing site.
